Causes
Genetic predisposition, childhood experiences of being teased or excluded, overprotective parenting styles, and low self-esteem can contribute to the development of social anxiety. Shy and introverted personality traits are also among the risk factors.
Treatment
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most effective method for treating social anxiety disorder. Recognizing and changing negative thought patterns, social skills training, and gradual exposure techniques form the foundation of treatment. Medication may also be applied when necessary.
